Connected Government – Why it Matters & What You Can Do

Government leaders at all levels of government strive to deliver excellent, citizen-centric service to their constituents – on a budget. In addition to tight resources, they must continually adjust to rising citizen expectations. Nowadays, citizens want to interact with government just like they do with any other organization- on the go and most likely, on a mobile device. Most people don’t want to wait in line to file a permit – they want to file online. If they have an issue like a pothole on their street, they don’t want to trek all the way to a town hall meeting. Instead, they want to post on a forum or tweet.

Some governments are already meeting these demands. Take Boston for example. They created Street Bump, an easy to use mobile app that tracks in real-time the smoothness of your ride to alert city officials of problem areas and ultimately improve streets. The State of Delaware’s Crime Tips is another great example of citizen engagement. This app enables citizens to record crime tips from their phone so there’s no need to call a hotline or visit the website. Finally, the Open Tree App, helps cities around the world track information about urban street trees by enabling both city staff and the public to get involved in their community.

These are only a few examples of governments leveraging technology, but admittedly, not everyone is there. So how can government keep up? How can they leverage mobile, cloud and social technology to connect better with their constituents?

The answer is easy: attend the Customer-Centric Government Track at the 8th Annual Oracle Federal Forum on October 21st. This track focuses on the key trends in customer experience (CX) including cloud, big data, mobile, and social. Participants will learn how current CX design and strategy can help improve your customer engagement activities and make them count.
