DISA Shutters Ohio, Penn. Data Centers

The Defense Information Systems Agency has moved to consolidate its data centers and information technology infrastructures as part of efforts to reduce operational costs.

DISA moved the operations of its data centers in Dayton, Ohio and Chambersburg, Pa. into the Defense Enterprise Computing Centers on Oct. 1, the agency said Thursday.

This effort is part of the Defense Department’s Joint Information Environment initiative, aimed at helping the department connect to a centralized platform and gain access to agency networks from various devices.

Nearly 30 civilian workers affected by those closures either moved to other functions or retired from service.

DISA says other data centers handling combatant commands, military services and agency requirements will continue to operate.
