Federal Eye: Chile quake: The U.S. government response

Federal agencies have once again mobilized following the 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile early Saturday morning.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, including the potential for a tsunami,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Chile, and we stand ready to help in this hour of need.”

The State Department is seeking information on Americans in the quake zone and has established a Chile Earthquake Google Person Finder for people in the quake zone and friends and families seeking
information on them. The State Department established a similar person
finder after the Haiti earthquake.
