GovLoop Project of the Week – HealthCare.gov

HealthCare.gov launched on June 30, 2010. It’s a website that puts the power back into the citizens hands by providing them the access of information right at their fingertips.

“It’s the first website to collect both public and private health insurance options across the nation in a single place. Even better, our insurance options finder automatically sorts through this huge catalog of options to help you identify the ones that may be right for you.”

“Other highlights of the site include extensive information about your rights as a consumer, how to navigate the health insurance marketplace, and how the Affordable Care Act can help you – all tailored to you.”

Hi Harlan –

The portal on HealthCare.gov shows ALL the insurance options particular to your area and situation in addition to the private insurance options. Esurance (and other online health insurance portals) only provide options for purchasing private insurance on the open market. They do not tell you about options that are NOT available on the private market. These include Medicaid, State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), COBRA, public clinics, and others.
