Panel Discussion - "The Open Government Directive: Agencies Prepare to Respond"

Moderator:
David McClure, Associate Administrator, Citizen Services and Communications, GSA

Panelists:
Sanjeev "Sonny" Bhagowalia, Chief Information Officer, Department of the Interior
Darren Ash, Deputy Executive Director for Corporate Management, NRC
Dennis Wisnosky, Chief Technology Officer, Business Mission Area- DoD OSD

We will launch the Community Fair with a panel discussion of the government agencies’ response to this critical OMB directive. This IAC program is a collaborative effort between multiple IAC SIGs and the IAC Program Committee. The C&T SIG will introduce the panel and provide an overview of the Open Government Directive (OGD) and the milestones set by the Obama Administration.

The OGD was issued by the President on December 8th, 2009 calling for specific actions and timelines for implementation to federal agencies. A panel of government officials will discuss their agency’s status and challenges in complying with the requirements including the data sets selected for Data.gov, launching an open government web page within 60 days, and possibly the biggest challenge, the requirement for an agency-wide Open Government Plan by April 8, 2010 that describes how the agency will increase transparency and integrate public participation and collaboration into its government business.
