Welcome! Please introduce yourself, let us know a little bit about you, and where you are from.
I'll start - Steve Ressler, founder of GovLoop. Currently, I'm based in Tampa but I hope to get back to D.C. in the near future. I've worked for a variety of agencies and am also the co-founder of Young Government Leaders (www.youngovernmentleaders.org).
UPDATE: January 2012
I started GovLoop as a way to connect individuals across the government community and spark conversation. I believe in the wisdom of crowds and together I know we can help improve government and grow our own careers along the way.
Since founding GovLoop, it’s evolved as both a whole community and one where we aim to meet individual interests of our members. Of these changes, one of the most significant is the inclusion of sub-communities, which you may find you may want to bookmark and visit frequently (i.e. every day!) to get the latest news and information in your field.
Scroll over the “Communities” tab on the main navigation bar to find which sub-communities interest you most. Let us know in your introduction what other information we can help you to find on GovLoop.

Permalink Reply by Stuart Wheeless on Sunday I too would like to extend a welcome to NeeVee. In addition to what Charles suggested, I recommend that you obtain a copy of Lily Whitemman's book How To Land A Top Paying Federal Job. SInce you are in the DC area, it should not be a surprise to you that's a beehive of federal activity. So you should be able to land something in your career field or something similar. If you're willing to relocate to another city or town, you'll increase your chances even more.
Charles - I'm a current federal employee wishing to relocate my family and I to the Charleston, SC area (whence we came from my hometown and prior to my first, now a second, current federal assignment). I've applied for federal positions through USA JOBS and have had some success with getting my application packages forwarded to the selecting official for consideration. But then it ends there without an interview or perhaps an occasional notification letter that I wasn't selected. I'm disappointed but not deterred from pressing on.
I have established tenure with the U.S. Government with several years under my belt, so hopefully I'm in it for the duration. So now I've decided to turn it up a notch by becoming more assertive with my federal job search in the location that my family and I want to be. I believe the research that says that those in the baby boomer generation will be retiring in big numbers in the coming years but current economic conditions will slow that down a little. I'm open to new ideas as to how I can go about this job search in an otherwise very competive and tight federal job market. Any advice is appreciated.

You might want to check out our human resources subcommunity, I think we could learn a lot from your expertise, seems like you've gotten great experience. You might also want to check out the careers subcommunity and the government career guide for advice on landing that federal job. Again, welcome aboard and we look forward to your continued involvement here!
Hello, I'm Sue Webster, currently serving as National President of Federally Employed Women (FEW) (www.few.org). I work for the Navy in Crane, IN, in the Business Operations Excellence Division working to facilitate teams looking for process improvements. Prior to that assignment, I served as the Public Affairs Officer for several years.
I live in Ellettsville, IN, near Bloomington. I'm interested in working with groups and sharing ideas concerning working to advance the visibility of the Federal Women's Program and to work for diversity and inclusion of all individuals.
Don't miss FEW's National Training Program in Detroit July 16-20, 2012. It's a great training opportunity! I hope to meet you there!
