GovLoop - Social Network for Government

(This question is part of the online participation effort leading up to the April 28th Open Government Directive Workshop at the USDA.  Links to other questions in this dialogue are at the bottom of this page.)

This question was submitted by one of the workshop participants:

  • How can we bring the ethos for open leadership into our own organizations?  New training courses needed in HR? Hire/retrain a core team of managers who can model this for others? How do we resolve and work with the transition from the old ways of managing to the new ways etc?  (Background info is in slide presentation.)

Glad to see this being discussed. My colleague, Alan Webber, is focused on government and has some great background and thoughts on how gov't can be more open.

And the book (coming out in May) has some gov't (State Department) examples (more info at open-leadership.com). Hope you'll find it useful!
Infact in the lines of this thought we launched http://bubbleideas.com which is a leadership 2.0 solution helping Gov leaders take decisions based on two-way communication between the citizens & the government.

We also very broadly laid out a sample of such a website for White House: http://sample.bubbleideas.com

Do chime in with your views of how else can our leaders utilize social nature of web?
