GovLoop - Social Network for Government

Last year ATF set up a YouTube account (http://www.youtube.com/user/ATFHQ) to utilize for various means.  This week we are beginning to roll out a series of educational seminars to assist FFLs with all manner of tasks.

However, some of the videos we are interested in posting are greater than the 10 minute limit imposed by YouTube.  It is my understanding that there is an available exemption to this time constraint for Federal channels.  It does appear that some of the other agencies have already obtained this status as they have a number of videos that are over the general time limit.

If anyone can point me in the correct direction on who to contact about this, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks in advance and sorry if this is not the correct venue for this query.

Hi James - This is the perfect place for your query! :-) I just tweeted this post to some folks I know that could help...also, I'm going to cross-post a link over in the "Google for Gov" group - so you might want to check there to see if folks respond direct.

P.S. We just subscribed to it from GovLoop on YouTube...feel free to cross-post relevant videos here, too: http://www.govloop.com/video/video/newWithUploader
Thanks for your assistance, I will be sure to follow any discussions on the Google group.
Hi there. Andrew got my attention on Twitter. :)

YouTube is one of the sites for which there is a model federal terms of service. Yes, they've waived the 10-minute limit and also given federal agencies some other perks.

You should start at apps.gov: https://apps.gov/cloud/advantage/cloud/sa_details.do?BV_UseBVCookie...

There, you'll be able to submit a request to your agency's point of contact.

Questions? Contact Andrea Sigritz at GSA: andrea.sigritz@gsa.gov
Thanks Jeffrey for helping out.
Thanks for your assistance!
I second that thanks, Jeffrey!

Also, I posted this question in the Google for Gov group...and got this response from Michael McCarthy, Creative Services Manager in City of Orlando:

Here's the info on requesting an official govt. youtube channel:

Thanks for your interest in starting a YouTube channel for your government, government department, or government agency. If you like, you can start a YouTube channel right away by creating an account and posting videos. One time at the end of every month, YouTube will transfer any new government channels to "branded" - thus allowing you to upload a branded banner to the top of your channel, and giving you the ability to upload longer videos to the site.

We do not have the capacity to do this more than one time per month, so please be patient if you don't hear back right away - and feel free to start posting videos to your account.

To enter your application for a branded channel, please send an email to government [at] youtube.com with the following 5 pieces of information:

● The name of your government, government department, or agency.
● Your .gov website URL.
● The account name you've registered on YouTube (i.e., your YouTube username).
● The email address you are using to manage the account.
● Any other information you want to tell us about your plans to launch the channel, and what types of content you plan to post.

Please also be aware the YouTube will not negotiate any individual content licensing agreements with state or local governments - your contract with YouTube is our site-wide terms and conditions, which you agree to upon starting an account on YouTube. To see that policy, please go to: http://www.youtube.com/t/terms

Thanks, and good luck!

Very frustrated, as an employee at a city government, to have found this advice posted on several forums etc. and followed the instructions to the letter, only to have our repeated attempts to contact YouTube at that email address ( government@youtube.com ) fall into a black hole. I've sent at least four messages there over the past 3 months and haven't heard a peep back, nor has our channel received the hoped-for, so-called "branded" status.

... Anyone from YouTube out there reading this?

... Anyone from Govt know a real person at YouTube whom I can contact? Or have any advice about how to proceed?
Vy helpful. Thanks to all.
Has anyone ever gotten a message when accessing a YouTube channel from a govt. computer that "You Tube has received a large volume of requests from your network" and they require you to enter a verification code. Some people inside here are getting that, some others are not.
I've received it before, but only once. I just did the captcha and it passed me through.
