GovLoop - Social Network for Government

I just participated in a focus group led by the US Office of Personnel Management, which is striving to "make government cool again." One of the questions we were asked was, "What's your favorite brand?" the idea is to learn from the best brands in order to shape the perception of government employment. The key here is not to come up with an artificial brand that does not represent public service, but to authentically and accurately capture the ethos behind a Federal job. So I pose the question to you: what's your favorite brand?

To get the ball rolling, some of the responses from posing the question on Twitter have been:

@tericee For government brands, I'd have to say USMC. Very consistent over the years. And always cool.

@batess Kirkland Signature

@candacemcc BMW

@lurita Kookaburra Strawberry Licorice, Sugar Babies, Cabela's 7 pocket hiker pants, Moleskin notebooks and Marie St. John suits

@alec3000 Metallica and Soundgarden!

@SavvyNavigator Virgin

@DanielPSullivan Orvis
Apple, Teach for America, Facebook...
Is it vain to suggest my favorite brand is me?
In feds: NASA
Private sector: Apple, Prius, Google
Coke - After I finally forgot the branding of "New Coke" ....Oh wait, I still haven't forgotten that mess, but I still love the branding of Coke.

I love the MAC commercials and the way they have branded MAC. I don't even own a MAC. I don't know how to work one. But, whenever I see a MAC sign, I love the way they make me feel.

Pixar

3M

MIT

and I really love the feel of the creditreport.com commercials. It makes me want to do something boring, that needs to be done, but I don't really want to do it. I love the way they have branded that site.

I will stop there and let others have a shot.
Target.

And my favorite band - "Man or Astroman"!
Apple, Ebay, Google, Peace Corp, Geico, Target...
Oh yeah... How could I forget Geico!? I love the Gecko! Who would have thought to use the common misspelling of your company, and use it as your mascot?! Pure genius!
I think intel has a great branding. It's not only the graphical image of the logo but the sound. Everyone knows what that brand that sound is associated with. Genius.

Speaking of Genius, Guinness does a pretty good job of branding too but it is more overseas than here in the US.
