GovLoop is proud to announce the release of our newest resource for up and coming leaders: Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Guide: Managing the Application Process

It’s that time of year when many hopeful Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) candidates will start their journey and begin the PMF application process. The PMF program is a great way to start your career in the federal government. GovLoop is excited to release a new guide that helps you navigate through the application process and advance your career in public service! Please let us know any way we can further help you out during the PMF application process. Be sure to keep us posted on how you are doing throughout the application process. Last thing – make sure you connect with other PMFs through the PMFs and Alums Group – a great spot to collaborate and share experiences with your PMF colleagues. Best of luck to you and we hope you find this guide useful as you start your journey toward becoming a Presidential Management Fellow.

Thanx Pat for this useful info. For govloopers out of America (e.g. am from Kenya in Africa) what would be the application process? And do they stand even a whisker of a chance?

I got into gov’t in 1993 as a PMF (it was the Pres. Mgt. Internship back then, but only the name changed). I’m still here. I loved the program, and learned a lot.

One key point: unless things have changed, just consider yourself a new employee with some extra support. Don’t come in with an attitude that you’re there to save the agency or that you’re going to be a manager in short order. You’re not a “management fellow,” you’re basically a well-qualified employee with a lot of potential.

I just put my application in today and will hopefully receive the nomination from my school’s Dean this week! Really excited about applying for this program and hope I make it through all the stages.

Hi Steven, that’s great to hear! Good luck with the application process and keep us all posted on how you are doing! Would love to hear about your experience and how we can improve future iterations of the guide. Best of luck!

Dear Pat,

I’m fairly new to the govloop community and want to thank you for posting these helpful comments about the PMF application process. I’m getting ready to apply this fall and wanted to know if I could connect with recent PMF applicants on this website to ask about their experience, etc. Thanks!
