A good graphical representation of the goal Business Intelligence attempts to achieve. This is provided by Pentaho, which is an open source BI application platform.

FREE Web Seminar: Leverage Real-Time Interactive Reports and Dashboards Across Federal Government Agencies. Thur, 7/28 @ 11AM.

Register here: http://bit.ly/mRXBL2

The recently-passed Government Performance and Results Modernization Act (GPRA) of 2010 calls for a more defined performance framework and requires frequent reporting and reviews to increase the use of performance information in program decision-making. Join us on Thursday, July 28 at 11am PT for a web seminar to understand how BIRT can be leveraged to create real-time interactive reports and dashboards to enable agencies to meet the new federal GPRA reporting requirements. In addition to providing attendees with an overview on BIRT, three federal agencies' usage of BIRT will be showcased.

Attend this web seminar to learn:

- Why BIRT is the premier development environment to present data visualizations in compelling ways via the Web
- Ways to quickly create interactive reports and dashboards that are real-time, easy to build and engage users
- How to deliver dynamic information across agencies and to the public via the web and mobile devices or cloud infrastructure

I noticed the diagram you are using is from Pentaho Open Source Business Intelligence
.
I am the Federal Account manager for Pentaho.

Open Source Business Intelligence is growing in Government as it provides the same functionality as the big proprietary vendors at 10% of the cost.

If any one wold like to know more about Open Source BI

I llike the visual of the BI Pyramid. Is there any more material behind this? I'll look at the Pentaho site and information, but looking at the interal slices (sales, purchasing, etc.) - is the organizational intent of the pyramid supporting a particular business model or is there something else?
