Why a Christians in Government Group

Many Christians, especially if not outspoken about their faith, feel isolated in the workplace and fearful of talking about Jesus. I hope that this will be a place that we can connect and encourage one another. I hope that people will share stories of how they or others are having a positive impact for Christ in their offices.

Feel free to share your challenging situations and ask for guidance and prayer. Share how your organization is celebrating or ignoring spiritual holidays. Let's learn from one another and give one another encouragement.

Please offer suggestions on how to improve the group. Jay Daughtry and I had the idea for starting this group after we met on GovLoop when I noted some Christian and biblical comments he had made on some blogs, so Jay will be assisting me in administering the group

Andrew, clarification ... I should be we (my wife and I) and we need to be in Limerick at 5 pm.

Sam Allgood Comment by Sam Allgood on February 3, 2012 at 9:25am

Andrew, believe it or not, I will be driving right by there on Monday headed to Limerick which is about a half-hour away. This is a last minute opportunity that I just wrote about last night at http://cbsi-ireland.org/blog/. If he would be interested in meeting / possibly helping to organize a Bible study in his area, I would be glad to stop by on Monday to visit him. There might be some other times Tues or Wed that I might be able to get up there from Cork.

Sam - I have a buddy managing the P&G plant in Nenagh. He's away from family. Get down there?

Sam,

My bride of 21 short years and I have been blessed to have traveld twice to Ireland. It is a poor country (a surprise to many) with rich ministry opportunities.

You will indeed be in our prayers both for safe travels and to be His light on the 'geen Island'.  God bless.

My wife and I are preparing to return to Ireland for some more ministry time. You can follow our blog with regular updates of what's going on. Also, here's our prayer calendar for our trip ... would greatly appreciate your prayers.

Just two questions to all Americans:

James Hendrix Comment by James Hendrix on January 17, 2012 at 12:55pm

Have your Bible right on your desk, hold prayer meetings with like minded co-workers. If allowed to listen to music (quietly or via head phones), have it be Christian music. Management won't let you.... WRONG

The FLRA has many decisions stating that Federal employees are free under the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution to practice their religion at work.

So being a Christian can be very easy at work...

Good thread to start!

I for one have been fascinated with the fact that the mainstream media hate Tim Tebow because of his faith in Jesus. It's a testament to his strong convictions that he gets that kind of criticism.

The best way I've found to give glory to God at work is to live it! Basically, love people where they are and who they are, despite our differences. The Lord works in mysterious ways and can take a simple act of kindness and plant the seed.

All glory to God! Ephesians 3:20-21

...and we'll both credit to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ :-)

And that brings me to another question I've been thinking about re: Tebowing. Tebow starts every interview with that phrase above. Now I know we can't start every meeting or encounter with a colleague by saying that...but how can we witness appropriately in our workplaces to our faith, giving credit where credit is due?

Sam Allgood Comment by Sam Allgood on January 17, 2012 at 9:58am

Like Tim Tebow, I must give credit where credit is due ... Andrew Krzmarzick shared the first one. Thanks to Andrew for reminding me of the second article which I just read this weekend.
