William,  I run an EVM workshop at the National Defense University and when the Federal IT Dashboard was established I started using that in the workshop.  As you may know, lumping sustainment data in with investment data masks actual investment performance.  I pointed this out in our last workshop, which included an analyst from OMB.  I was therefore wondering if they were looking at revising the data in the dashboard or if there was another reason for the lack of update.  It sounds like that, whatever the reason, it has not filtered down to the agencies yet.

Thanks for your posting.

Dennis, I just looked and it appears that the data is "as of" May, which would have been reported in July so somehow data is not being posted. I'm in a Treasury Bureau and as far as I know data is going to the Department and submitted to OMB.  No idea what is happening there, but I don't think it is the agencies.

Has anyone noticed that the Federal IT dashboard has not been updated with current EVM information since 2 August?  Does anyone know why?

I have been concerned for some time that by mixing D/M/E data with Sustainment data, accurate investment performance was being lost, but it was fairly simple to back out the sustainment to look at project/initiative performance.  However, Agencies now seem to be a couple of months behind on submitting their updated cost and schedule status.  .

Anybody heard when the 95% solution might be out? Based on commennts at the CPIC conference, it may be in April some time.

Hello everyone, I'm a new member and would like to start with a question, or really a request.  One of the hurdles I regularly face when dealing with folks higher up in an organization is a lack of knowledge of EVM and how the data should be interpreted.  I think it loses a lot when it is overly "dumbed up" into color codes that mask any useful information.  Any thoughts on materials that would help busy execs quickly understand (stop snickering) the data we work so hard to develop?

Thanks,

Bill

INTERESTED IN ASSISTING A PHD (CANDIDATE) WITH YOUR OPINIONS?
ARE YOU IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES FIELD?
DO YOU WORK IN THE GOVERNMENT OR IN THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY?

I am starting coursework this fall for my PhD in Education, Occupational Studies and Technology; emphasis in Training & Development in Human Resources at ODU, Norfolk, VA.

I am gearing up to start performing my research, which will potentially entail getting qualitative, as well as quantitative, information and data from HUMAN RESOURCES practitioners in the field in general, as well as specifically in the GOVERNMENT AND DEFENSE INDUSTRY. Research will most likely start in later winter of 2009 or spring of 2010.

Would you be kind enough to send me an invitation to link, so when I start my research, I will be able to contact you - if you have an interest in contributing to my research with your candid opinions? I do accept all invitations on LinkedIn.com, as well as GovLoop.com. (Unfortunately, I am out of invites on LinkedIn.)

If you are not in the Human Resources arena, but know of someone who might be able to link up with my connections to assist my research, please push this request forward.

I would be very appreciative of this. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Respectfully, Dawn D. Boyer
