Thought some of you would be interested in this: The National Academy of Public Administration will be hosting a forum on Place-Based Public Management on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 8:30-11:30 AM.

The event will feature a panel of federal and private-sector leaders that will (1) discuss lessons learned in developing and implementing place-based approaches to public management; and (2) identify the key challenges and opportunities in realizing the full potential of these approaches.

Has anyone seen Episode Three of Geospatial Revolution? It focuses on geospatial technology’s role in safety - in times of war and peace - and has a a few great testimonials including Letitia Long, Director, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

Just posted a blog entry on Intelligence on Demand. Intelligence on Demand (IoD), a new web portal that offers users a world of imagery and analysis by Lockheed Martin. IoD combines mapping, data, and analytic tools and delivers them as a secure service from a cloud infrastructure to law enforcement officials on their mobile devices.

Hi group - I just posted a blog entry that may be of interest:

Predictive Policing and the Role of GIS
http://www.govloop.com/profiles/blogs/predictive-policing-and-the

Excerpt:
GIS has been used to produce crime “hot spot” maps as well as to conduct spatial analyses that suggest relationships between crime and characteristics of the social and physical environments in which crime concentrations occur. GIS mapping and satellite imagery can supplement maps with detailed dynamic pictures of the reported incident’s location and the surrounding neighborhoods.

A new blog entry on Acronym Online explores the role of GIS technology in disaster relief efforts.

More than Just Maps – From Haiti to Pakistan GIS has Unlimited Potential for Doing Good
excerpt:

"The applications and uses of GIS now number in there thousands, and are constantly evolving driven by market-forces, user demands, and a great deal of them time – unforeseeable challenges.

Take for example, the recent flooding in Pakistan. While satellite imagery from GeoEye and Google Earth was able to make the scale and impact of the devastation realizable it was a combination of Google-developed and user-driven map and GIS-based technology that really helped make an immediate impact on relief efforts."

About [acronym] Online
[acronym] online is dedicated to those in the public sector working within the 2D and 3D digital design, GIS, architecture and engineering disciplines.

Here’s an interesting article in KMWorld — http://bit.ly/9ByQq6 — about how Warrior Gateway.org leverages XML to store and perform advanced search. The site combines many formats into a single presentation layer that enables geospatial indexing, social networking, etc. Warrior Gateway Executive Director Devin Holmes will present at MarkLogic Gov Summit on Nov. 17 in Tysons Corner, VA —http://www.marklogic.com/gs10/
