GovLoop - Social Network for Government

I find this survey very interesting re: demand for iPads among enterprise users. http://bit.ly/cTrl6F But it was conducted by a mobility company in Silicon Valley.  So I'm thinking the sample might have been heavily tilted toward private-sector "bleeding-edge" users.

I wonder how much this applies to gov users?  Do you feel that iPads are about to permeate your organization?  Are people on your team planning to purchase and use them for work?

I'm just curious if this survey is a bellwether for trends that will affect us all, or if mobile gov workers will stay with notebook or go with non-Apple tablets?

3 of us at the Center for New Media (at GSA) have iPads, and use them regularly.
I've already seen several in use by staff during meetings. The one guy has a nice suede cover on his and it was tough to distinguish immediately. They've likely already infiltrated. The guys treat them like an iPhone on steroids (useful and now flashy and big - cause bigger is better when talking status, right?)

Seriously, I saw my first on on a Fed site the day they came out. Anywhere you have technology or technology-minded folks your going to see them.

I'll stick to my laptop (and hate smart phones... I am too old to want to be in touch with anyone 24-7!

We have ordered iPads for our social media working group to use. We need to use current tools to help us understand how our users may be interacting with us online. I think we are on the cusp of major changes in relation to new tools and the use of social media to get our work accomplished efficiently and to engage the public in new ways. This is all being led by our new Agency head, who will be getting one of the iPads as well.
As much as we may try to think otherwise, iPads (or something similar to them, perhaps a non-Apple version) are the way to go for companies in the future. The reason being that if Company A decides not to use them, then Company B, which does, has the edge.

As for gov users. The iPad definitely provides much needed aid. Just think of all the apps that could be used - maybe as simply as marking down territories covered during a campaign (perhaps on Foursquare?). The millions of apps will definitely make the iPad a must-have for any serious organization in the next year or two.
