If you've got a security clearance, I think you'll really like this infograph that reveals it's salary value:

If you or someone you know is looking for a job, you may want to join us at the next Cleared Job Fair in Tysons Corner. Only cleared facilities employers are allowed to exhibit, resume reviews done by folks familiar with the federal space and career seminars throughout the day.

Yes I know Tysons Corner is a bit of a nightmare with all the construction, but the Westin Tysons Corners is "inside" the beltway on Route 7 before all the construction!

@ Howard:
You are correct if a contractor has a security clearance he loses his clearance if he becomes a federal employee or works for another contractor.
The federal government is working on developing a system for compatibility across agencies and hopefully someday if one is transferred/gets a new job, a simple review of most current investigation by the adjudicator will be all that is required to "gain" a security clearance with your new employer/agency, assuming that the "clearance level is the same or lower at the gaining organization.

One area that needs to be addressed is the difference between the security clearances of defense contractors and the security clearances of Government civilians.

For example, if a contractor has a Secret security clearance and then gets a job as Government civilian, then the security clearance as a contractor become invalid. The individual must go through another investigation. However, depending on the agency, the new Government civilian may be able to gain an Interim security clearance after submission of a new investigation.
