I am so excited to see that someone has brought Kiva to GovLoop - Thank you! I just came back from a fantastic conference (Underground Online Seminar) where I met speaker, Jessica Jackley co-founder of KIVA. She was such an inspiring speaker and is doing such incrediable work. Keep an eye out -- she's working on another company that will be released very soon!

Whoah! Since I last wrote about 6 weeks ago, we've more than doubled the loans we've given!

We're up to 26 people making 119 loans totaling $11,850.00. Woohoo!

Thanks so muc, everyone, for keeping this idea going. And especially to John Sporing for picking up the baton and running with it.

When the idea of doing microloans as a team from GovLoop occurred to me back in February, I wondered whether anyone would join me.

Now we've loaned $6300!

So again, thanks to everyone, and keep it coming!

Hi ALL,

I caught a minute of a how the other night, and I wanted to find out more about it. I think I may have also read a little about it on GOVLOOP, or maybe a news website, the point is I am trying to find out more information about a little company for women in poor countries.

It is like AVON...but not. The women go door to door and sell personal hygiene items, including bed nets. But, to make it more important to the women, they must buy their kits just like in America. The kits are, of course, not priced like here in the states, but it teaches the women independence. I love the program. I just can't find out more information about it. I really am interested in funding $25 for one of the ladies to purchase their sales kits.

I love this program, because in some countries the men do not like their wife to do business with men - this business is women to women, and many times the women are in charge of everything at home, so they need to set their own schedules. This "Avon' type business is a perfect fit. Plus, the items they are offering are items, which the people really need; Tooth brushes, toothpaste, bed nets, soap, etc...

If anyone knows more about this, please let me know.

Michael is the owner of CineCipher, a multi-media videography company located in the San Francisco Bay Area. He works with small businesses and non-profits to help them tell their stories.

Michael loves owning his own business, but ever-changing developments in technology mean he needs to undertake significant expense to remain competitive. This loan will allow Michael to upgrade his equipment and software and will help to increase his number of clients and the services that CineCipher is able to provide.
