I just lent to this woman to help her husband run a scrap dealing business. I like the facts that:
a) He's recycling things
b) They're in Pakistan, which at least is trying to help us fight terrorism

Needs $675 total
Razia is an active lady, carrying out her responsibilities as a housewife and mother very well. She prefers to stay at home and take care of her family. She is a resident of Jaranwala, which is a small city located in the Punjab province of Pakistan and known for its agricultural industry. She has been living there with her family in a three-room brick house for the past 10 years. Her husband's name is Muhammad Sarwar and he is a scrap dealer. He supplies scrap to different factories and to other scrap dealers on demand and generates income for the family.

Razia has four sons and a daughter. Her eldest son left his education and started working. He is a bus conductor. The other two are enrolled in a local school getting their education.

Razia has applied for a loan from Kiva's partner, Asasah, for her husband who wants to buy scrap to fulfill the demands of his clients. With the loan, he will buy scrap such as used paper, plastic bottles, etc. He has been operating this business for the past many years and is well known among his clients for his good work. Razia hopes that an investment will bring positive financial changes to his business and will help her family to live a better financial life as a result.

Razia is a regular loan user of Asasah and this is her second loan application. In previous years, she has established good credit behavior and never missed any meeting.

I'd added $28 to the effort (I had some credit with Kiva that I threw in).

Cool Tom - just donated $25 myself and sent note to the community.

A loan of $7,850 helps Christian Pineda to hire two employees
Christian Pineda owns United Credit Solutions, a business offering credit consultation for those looking to rehabilitate their credit. He works with people who suffer from poor credit through financial mismanagement or who have been victimized by identity theft. What Christian finds most satisfying is that he helps his clients achieve a higher quality of life. With his tutelage, many of his clients are able to own their own car or home, things they had previously been unable to do.
Christian worked for a credit consulting firm for three years, before deciding to start United Credit Solutions a year ago. With many people still feeling the effects of the recession, United Credit Solutions has grown steadily as it helps more and more people escape financial crisis. Christian and his associates cover an extended territory in what is known in South Texas as “the Valley”.
This loan, through ACCION Texas-Louisiana, allows Christian to hire two additional employees, who will help Union Credit Solutions manage its increasing client volume.
Christian has quickly developed a reputation in South Texas as someone who can help people escape the vicious cycle caused by having poor credit. More than anything, Christian considers himself an educator. Christian, once a victim of poor credit himself, tells his clients how he raised his credit score from 400 and now owns two cars and a house. He says that he provides a real-life example of what his clients can achieve.
Christian is married with three children. Check out his website at http://unitedcreditsolutions.net/services.html

I searched the Kiva site, and there actually are no loans in Japan available.  I browsed around, and was surprised to find some loans available for borrowers in the U.S.  This one looked promising. U.S. Kiva Link- Chrisian Pineda

Thanks Tom - can you look and recommend a loan?  Then I'll be sure to promote it

Are there entrepeneurs in Japan that need help getting back on their feet?  I haven't looked at the Kiva site for that, but I will.

Putting together a new loan this week - any areas/projects people want to focus on?
GovLoop Comment by GovLoop on January 16, 2011 at 10:32pm
Seriously - pretty cool.

If others see a Kiva loan they like, post it here and we can support that one too.
