Earlier this year, Management Concepts conducted a work-life survey that addressed key issues many employees struggle with when attempting to integrate the demands of their work and personal lives.

·        89.5% of respondents agreed that work-life issues are important when evaluating an employer

·        79% would consider turning down a promotion if a job did not support sufficient work-life integration

·        Only 37% stated that they have enough time each day to spend with their spouse or significant other

Since many of you probably did not participate in this survey, I was interested in learning what work-life issues are important to you. Do you feel similarly to the majority of our respondents?

I agree.

I think work/life is so key. And it is not just about working less. I think it's about being flexible and thinking about work/life balance. Places that let you work from home on a day when you have a doctors appointment, tell you to take a vacation when you need it, and understand there's more than just work.

You? What does work/life mean to others?
Absolutely. As with everything, it is all about balance. If you can base your work/location choice on an acceptable balance of professional and personal/family needs, you will achieve acceptable happiness, contentment, and gratification.
- Especially relevant for those of us who relish the periodic relocations and self-reinventions.
