The Sept session of teh Federal and DoD SharePoint users group is this evening.  For details on attending in person or viaLive meeting see www.fedspug.org or the meetup site at http://www.meetup.com/fedspug-wspdc/  Great line up of speakers tonight

How many people here would like to store paper and other documents into SharePoint?  How many more would do it if software can auto categorize and index the document and route or store it based on content or rules?

This can be done with inputs from email, scanners, fax machines, print/scan/fax (multifunction devices).

User adoption is a very real issue with this platform. I have been working with it just about 10 years now and "if you build it they will come" almost never applies :)

There are great resources available, including this: SharePoint 2010 User Adoption Kit. Also, there is a SP users group in the area at SharePoint Users Group of DC that can provide good references as well.

A major topic with successful SharePoint deployments is Governance. When that is planned properly, it goes a long way towards user adoption.

Good luck with your future SharePoint endeavours!

I recently attended a SharePoint 2010 class, but wondered how effective this software is, if your organization doesn't totally embrace it?

SharePoint Saturday this year as quite amazing. I had the good fortune of speaking as well as attending several great sessions. I'm not sure of the actual numbers, but I believe there were over 1200 attendees on the first day. Read about it here: SPSTC Blog

When I started the SharePoint Users Group of DC back in '05, I had no idea the community would grow so large. It is due to the great work done by a group of people really dedicated to the SharePoint communinty. Keep your eyes open for more great stuff from them. Here is a link to the user group: SUGDC

Hi Everyone, I'm new to GovLoop and the SharePoint Group.  I'm from Yammer, and I'm working with more Federal Agencies looking to add "social" to SharePoint.  Not to be too forward, but there are some misconceptions out there that Yammer is competitive with SharePoint, when it's actually the opposite.  Just wanted to share a link and two docs, about our SharePoint integration and Yammer overview.  send me a message for more info.  Thanks!

I had not heard of SharePoint until I came to my present job.  That was about two and half years ago.  I have read the book "SharePoint for Dummies 2007" but I am primarily self-taught.   My staff knows more than I do about it, but I try to increase my knowledge whenever I can.  All components of my agency use it to manage major projects. Great tool.
