Why will rap - yes, you read that right - change the DoD and Intelligence communities? Your answer is below:

Very intriguing article. I've never heard of the kid, but I'd agree with the author that this would be a great direction for the music industry to be heading. I love to see people of any industry, especially music, bucking the system and changing up the game.

It'll be interesting to see more success stories like this over the coming years. Part of me thinks this is a going to be a growing trend, but part of me also thinks Alex is just an outlier. He not only has the qualities of a talented musician, but the business smarts and entrepreneurial spirit to go it alone. As the article shows, and much like the business world in general as well, not everyone has that insane motivation not to mention the desire. Only time will tell I suppose...

Great article in Forbes on Alex Day, who refused to sign with a label and go it on his own...and he may very well represent the future of music, according to this author:

Do you use Google Music? Problems with dup'd up tunes? Interesting blog post here:

Obama's asking the public to help him create his campaign soundtrack via Spotify.  How else could music be used in government to engage the public?

I'd say especially electronic music is really growing where the DJ is basically an artist (this is different than just some club in Dupont where people go for a meat market and the DJ just plays standard music).  Some of biggest touring artists now are DJ's (Tiesto, Deadmau5) and most of top 40 music has a really heavy electronic flavor right now (which is kind of interesting/odd)

See how 930 club & U Street Music club are partnering now -

Snakehead run - thats an awesome name - I just liked that one :)

I'm in several ranging from acoustic blues to swing to jug band.

Check out,

I've heard of at least one place that fills up with a $20 cover for a DJ.  Just amazing to me.

Ah...good question Jim.  Missed this.

I love going to shows in DC when I'm in town.  Been to 930 club, Black cat, Jammin Java, and others.

Actually went to see my 1st DJ over Thanksgiving at U Street Music hall - was pretty sweet

What kind of band are you in?

Ok - Here's a question for the Gov Loop folks that live in DC.  Do you prefer going to live music or DJ Clubs, and why?  In the interest of full disclosure, at night I play in a couple of bands.  DC has a reputation of not really supporting live music but seems to have a fairly active night life with high covers for DJs, etc.  And the large percentage of government workers has been blamed on occasion.  Is it true?

I am in love with Spotify! To throw some confusion into the debate - have you looked at iheartradio?
