DC MUSICIANS ROCK THE HOLIDAYS

AND STAND UP FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Washington, DC -- On Thursday, December 22, 2011, over 30 local musicians and poets will converge on Rock and Roll Hotel to ring in the Second Annual Modern Times Holiday Show. Proceeds will benefit The House of Ruth, a DC based charitable organization that provides housing and supportive services to 109 women � these women were formerly homeless and nearly all are survivors of domestic violence.

This ever-growing group of Washington, DC based musicians and artists met at the Modern Times Coffeehouse �Unplugged Open Mic� (every Friday in the coffeeshop in the basement of the Politics and Prose Bookstore.) �For us, this show was a no-brainer,� says Adrian Krygowski, event co-organizer. �We�re thrilled to be back at Rock and Roll Hotel for the second year in a row, this time standing in solidarity with women who have walked away from unthinkable violence to start their lives again.��

�The holidays can increase stress,� adds co-organizer Maureen Nelson, �and this can be a very hard time of year for women in unstable homes. We are proud to use music and poetry to help support a positive force in our city and help in any way we can.�
