GovLoop - Social Network for Government

"Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it." Goethe

Have you thought about starting a great project? If so, Robert Grudin's observations may provide some comfort for you.

"Fast drivers can see no further than slow drivers, but they must look further down the road to time their reactions safely. Similarly, people with great projects afoot habitually look further and more clearly into the future than people who are mired in day-to-day concerns. These former control the future because by necessity they must project themselves into it; and the upshot is that, like ambitious settlers they stake out larger plots and homesteads of time than the rest of us. They do not easily grow sad or old; they are seldom intimidated by the alarms and confusions of the present because they have something greater of their own, some sense of their large and coherent motion in time, to compare the present with."
[Robert Grudin (1982) Time and the Art of Living]

What are your observations about action? What has been your experience starting new projects? Do you have a great project that could be helped by this network?

"Doubt can only be removed by action." Goethe

Thanks for the invitation Robert... I do have a project that I hope our GovLoop friends here can help me with and at the same time contribute to interesting dialogue for high school youth everywhere.

Since around 2000, starting first with President Clinton, then Bush, and now Obama, our Forum Foundation in Seattle has been conducting a yearly State of the Union Opinionnaire® survey for school youth, parents, and teachers, and also readers of The Futurist magazine from the World Future Society. In fact, our project is an approved project of the Professional Member's Forum of the World Future Society.

There are students who are studying civic-related values and principles in school, talking with friends and family, responding to our anonymous survey, studying those results, and presenting reports back in class about their insights.

I would like to offer our GovLoop community an opportunity to provide their own anonymous opinions on direct quotes from President Obama so that more non-student opinions can be contributed, contrasted, and analyzed by students.

It takes about 15 minutes to participate but it would help out a lot of students.
Plus, I would appreciate feedback from our GovLoop friends about the project and any suggestions they might have. If we could get a number of people to contribute their opinions, I would be willing to provide a summary of the results here on GovLoop.

I have created a unique access link just for GovLoop readers. It has to be used exactly like it appears in this posting... you can't use the link shown in the browser after you click it -- it gets changed in the browser... it has to include the embedded keyword:

Thanks again for encouraging this post on GovLoop. I hope people enjoy themselves.
Please post any follow-up comments here in this thread.
