IMO significant amount of information available, especially if one follows all the links provided in the PSYblog posting

Every day we we are bombarded with perceptions, ideas and emotions and what we choose to pay attention to shapes our lives, it makes us who we are.

Attention is one of the most fascinating and highly researched areas in psychology. Psychologists have found that with training we can perform impressive feats of multitasking, we can divide our visual attention (without moving our eyes) and we are surprisingly effective at picking out just one voice from a multitude.

Henry, thanks for this post. May I suggest you also search TED for Daniel Pink, author of "A Whole New Mind". You're probably already tracking on this. I also wonder if you've checked out NLP -- neuro-lnguistic programming. From all the posts I've seen of yours in the past, I'm guessing this may be something really intriguing to you. Again, I also imagine that you are already on it.

None-the-less, I think we really have to acknowledge that advances in brain science in the past 10 - 20 years due in part to functional MRI is changing the way we think about our own abilities in very positive ways. Certainly from a leadership development perspective we should be aware of "neuro-plasticity" -- the ability to change thought patterns and behaviors in a single trial, or shall we say --the ability for incredible flexibility in how we think, act, speak , believe, etc. Also, the work on mirror-neurons and our ability to connect with others even more rapidly than we can connect right-left brain thoughts of our own.

If we pay attention to the information that makes this work meaningful, turning it from .purely technical to practical usage, we can learn so much right now. I find it fascinating. Daniel Goleman, Daniel Pink, etc........

I'm curious to know what specifically you find interesting and valuable in the videos, websites, etc. Where do you see the impact of these findings affecting us the most?

Best
Joan
In relation to the psychology of attention, I think the following Johann Wolfgang von Goethe quote is appropriate:

"We are shaped and fashioned by what we love."
You can see some related discussion posted in the Smarter, Better, Open Government
Group. I asked if among the barriers to the advance of social media how important is ... Information Overload?
