Wow, a very exciting Superbowl that went down to the last play!  A word on the Giants:  this was a team so plagued by injuries that the Washington Redskins beat them TWICE during the regular season.  At season's end with a relatively healthy squad the G-Men beat the Cowboys in Dallas, Atlanta at home, then GREEN BAY and San Francisco away, and finally New England.  Amazing string of wins against the best teams in the league and mostly in front of hostile crowds.

Congrats to the Giants and all that picked them.

I want to thank all of you who played the NFL Pool and hope to hear from each of you next season!

The final tallies: Ian, the winner, with 179. Shawn 178, Mike 177, Eddie 173, Ed (yours truly) 165, Steph 159, Kathy 149, Bill 144, Kat 108 and those of you who started late Colin 105, John 77, Rick 73, and Mark 36.

Conference playoffs update!

Ian leads (and looking at the superbowl picks, will continue to lead regardless. so he wins the cup for this year!  Congrats, Ian!) with 178, Shawn follows with 177, and Mike with 176.  Considering that Shawn and Mike are both former winners says a lot about their consistent ability to pick the winners in NFL games!  Congrats to them too!  An honorable mention to newcomer Eddie with 172 on his first outing!  And the rest:  Me with 164, Steph 158, Kathy 148, Bill 143, and Kat 108.  Then those of you with very good scores who joined late: Colin 105, John 77, Rick 72, and Mark 36.

Next week's result may raise your score by 1 but as the overwhelming majority picked the Giants (actually no one picked the Giants, you all picked Green Bay or New Orleans, but the winning team just moved into your bracket), the competition is now moot.

QUESTION.  Did you all like the brackets way of picking the playoffs?  Two of you have all ready complained about it, so I'm asking for next season.  Would you like to have me just send out weekly picksheets or do the whole playoff set as a brackets form?  Just answer WEEKLY or BRACKETS and I'll get the idea.  I'll announce the decision with my superbowl update.  Thanks for playing!

Does anyone here play Buzztime Trivia in a local bar?  The Italian restaurant a couple of blocks from the house started featuring it again in the bar.  We took 5th place on the monthly high score list tonight.  You can also play on Facebook, just search for "Buzztime".  Fun if you have accumulated a lot of useless information :)

In the playoff bracket pool I got EVERY game right except the last one! I picked the Steelers over the Packers.  Ah well.  Mike Psarakis wins the cup this year for best pick percentage over all.  The NFL Pool will see you all again next fall!  Thanks for playing!

The regular season is over in the NFL Pool discussion.  If you would like try your hand (consider it practice for next year), have a go at predicting the playoff games with start this week.  Good luck!

This time of year, we often need a good laugh.  This certainly lightened things up for me!   Enjoy this holiday stress reducer.

I won the NFL pool 2 weeks running! How can you let that happen?
Join in! The pick sheets for week 14 are up and ready for Thursday's game. Good luck!

Top This One for A Speeding Ticket!

Two California Highway Patrol Officers were
conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just
north of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar.
One of the officers was using a hand held radar
device to check speeding vehicles approaching the
crest of a hill.

The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar
gun began reading 300 miles per hour. The officer
attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset
and then turned off. Just then a deafening roar over
the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked
on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet which was engaged in
a low flying exercise near the location.

Back at the CHP Headquarters the Patrol Captain
fired off a complaint to the USMC Base Commander.

The reply came back in true USMC style:

Thank you for your letter. We can now complete
the file on this incident.

You may be interested to know that the tactical
computer in the Hornet had detected the presence
of, and subsequently locked on to your hostile radar
equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal
back to it, which is why it shut down.

Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the
fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on
to your equipment location. Fortunately, the Marine
Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for
what it was, quickly responded to the missile system
alert status and was able to override the automated
defence system before the missile was launched to
destroy the hostile radar position.

The pilot also suggests you cover your mouths when
cussing at them, since the video systems on these
jets are very high tech. Sergeant Johnson, the officer
holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check
his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose.
Also, the snap is broken on his holster.

Thank you for your concern.

Well, shaking things up in Dallas did certainly have a result! The Cowboys finally looked like the Cowboys. Did a few days of a different coach change that? Somehow I doubt this, but it was fun to have the pokes back. Kat Farrish was the only one in the NFL pool to pick Dallas over the Giants in NY and that allowed her to edge Mike to win this week's pool. Way to go, Kat!
