GovUps

GovLoopers-

Ever want to bring the GovLoop experience to life in the real world? Well, with a little help from our friends at GSA you can do just that with GovUps.

So what's a GovUp? It's a chance to meet other Govies and members of the GovLoop team in a laid back setting in your hometown or at least a town near you. Set aside the online connect for a day and come out and meet other innovators face to face and make some connections. Anyone is welcome doesn't matter if your local, state of federal so get pumped and get ready to be inspired by those around you.

Check out the map and other resources below to find out more about a GovUp that's headed to your area.

Steve aka Mr. GovLoop

We realize you know more about your cities than we do so please feel free to tell us where the good places are to host an event and who in the area you would be interested in hearing speak. You can comment below.

Remember GovUps are meant to a fun time where govies and innovators can connect so try to keep it from being buttoned up but also don't show up in pajamas.

Light appetizers will be served at each event so you might want to eat before hand if you carry a big appetite.

Finally if you don't see your city, let us know! We can't promise anything but we'd love to hear about what govies are doing in your area and why we should stop by.

Huntsville GovUp. Those who came out to 801 Franklin had a great time and also learned Enterprise 2.0. Here are a few pics.

I'm a retiree living in South Florida. I always like mixing with my old friends and colleagues who are still on the job. South Florida sure is nice during the winter.

How about Cleveland, Ohio?

Hi Steve! Portland, Oregon? We've got a Government Open Source Conference (GOSCON) GOSCON MeetUp coming together next month on October 26th as a pre-conference event. We've got some local folks organizing and would love to put the call out to the gov community in the region for the evening. Sonny Bhagowalia from GSA/Data.gov will be in town to participate in meetings, let me know if it makes sense to team up. Schedule of events at goscon.org/schedule . If the notice is too short, count me in on helping you put together one in Oregon after the first of the year. Cheers! Deb

I didn't see our city, so I'm suggesting a visit to Lansing, Michigan. State Capital, lots of Fed & State govies here and we're equadistant from Detroit & Grand Rapids govies too. The bonus? We're also Big Ten Central for Michigan State University. Even it you can't promise anything, know that we'd love for you to stop by and witness the tenacity and hear from a keep-on-truckin' group of govies trying to better and keep this State moving through troubling times.

Ari, it's completely cool to ask. The GovUps are sponsored by GSA but it's chance to meet the GovLoop staff hear Mr GovLoop speak but most importantly it's just a cool gathering where govies can meet govies and swap ideas and best practices in person. Very laid back event! Also we do wrangle up another cool speaker for each event, normally just somebody that's doing something awesome in government.

Where will the one in Chicago be held?
Comment by Ari Herzog on September 14, 2010 at 4:41pm
Maybe it's my small brain, but I don't understand what this is about: to learn about GovLoop and meet its staff, or to learn about the GSA and meet its staff?

Or both?

What is the format of these events? Mere mingling or more PechaKucha-like presentations?

Gotcha up there now Nick!

How about Nashville, or Clarksville, TN (Fort Campbell, KY is major civilian employer in area)
Comment by Stephen Peteritas on September 13, 2010 at 11:54am
hmm what's big in Gov there minus the state side since it's the capital

How about Columbia, SC?
Comment by Kitty Wooley on September 9, 2010 at 8:59pm
Stephen: well, maybe if I had permission to show up in pajamas (KIDDING).
