Gov 2.0 Expo Highlights

I was fortunate enough to end up at the Gov 2.0 Expo in Washington DC. First of all, if you are ever in DC stay at the DC Guest House. Big thanks to Laurel Ruma at O'Reilly for turning me on to the place.

Second, the Expo was on the whole, pretty awesome. There were some slick show and tells, a lot of energy, and thought provoking discussions.… Continue

Procurement 2.0 at Gov 2.0 Expo: Lessons from the Better Buy Project

Sitting in on the Procurement 2.0 session at the Expo, discussing the evolution of the Better Buy Project. The session is being masterfully moderated by Chris Dorobek.

Chris Hamm, GSA:

Does your agency have the passion for Gov 2.0? - #Localgovchat / #g2e @garyvee Edition Tonight at 9 EST

So why was Gary Vaynerchuk, @garyvee of #crushit fame, asked to keynote the Gov 2.0 Expo this week in Washington DC? He is not a tech guy. He doesn't work for government. For all I know, he doesn't have anything to do with government (except his contempt for interstate wine shipping laws). I believe he was invited because he has a deep, personal passion for what he does. He grew up in the industry where… Continue

Agency data isn't perfect and transparency isn't enough

Raw data isn't always the same as government transparency, said speakers and audience members during a May 25 session at the Gov 2.0 Expo in Washington, D.C.

Said one audience member, "there are lies, damned lies, statistics and government data."

John Sheridan, head of e-Services and Strategy at the United Kingdom's Office of Public Sector Information and co-chair of the W3C's eGovernment Interest Group, said it's important that agencies consider whether or not they are…

Gov2.0 Expo: How to do Gov2.0 for the kids?

The opening keynotes at the Gov2.0 Expo were overall very impressive. With slides advancing automatically every 15 seconds amounting to 5 minutes per speaker, the presentations were well-rehearsed nuggets highlighting projects run by bright people that everyone should be paying attention to.

One presentation I particularly liked was Liz Losh's "12 Don'ts for Government 2.0." The point that changed my thinking was "#2.…
