2012 Feds Feed Families Campaign Begins on June 1, 2012 - Will You Help Those in Need?

The 2012 Feds Feed Families Food Drives, sponsored by the Office of Personnel Management and the Chief Human Capital Officers Council, will launch on June 1, 2012. There continues to be a need to feed the hungry accross the country, particularly in the summer months, when there are increased shortages in food banks and an increased need among children who do not benefitting from school lunch programs.

Are You Volunteering to Honor September 11th?

This year, more than 1 million Americans are expected to serve in their communities in honor of 9/11.

 

Service projects will range from food drives and home repairs to neighborhood cleanups and disaster preparation activities. In many areas, volunteers will honor veterans, soldiers, or first responders by collecting donations, assembling care packages, and writing thank you letters.

Career Days: Worthwhile or a Waste?

On Tuesday, I organized a Career Day for an elementary school in Washington, D.C. that I work with as a consultant.

It is a Title I school with more than 40 percent of students qualifying for the USDA Free & Reduced Lunch Program. There were 20 speakers, including some govies: a medical doctor who specializes in public health at DHHS, a City of Alexandria Public Housing researcher who holds a Ph.D., an Air Force pilot who is headed toward retirement, and a District of Columbia…
