Hey Govloopers - Happy Saturday!!!
Doc Nix - and the esteemed Green Machine from George Mason will warm you up with their version of a Rage classic:
Three weeks from tomorrow it will be Selection Sunday (you make sure you stay tuned here because we're going to have a bracket challenge on Govloop) - the college basketball season has gone by too fast!!
Today mark's what will be Georgetown University's last men's basketball road trip to Syracuse University - conference realignment has unfortunately ended another historic rivalry. Next year, Syracuse will join the Atlantic Coast Conference - and Georgetown will be aligned with the Catholic 7 as it's called (e.g. the Jesuit schools in the Big East that did not have football programs). Game time is at 4 PM EST on CBS.
There will be more than 35,000 fans in the Carrier Dome today.
Think about this - this is a football-sized crowd for a basketball game - a regular season on-campus game.
Many of the students have camped out for tickets since Wednesday - and on Friday, Coach Jim Boeheim bought them coffee and doughnuts in appreciation ...
Briefly, let's talk about some @HokieGuru keys to the game:
1.) For Georgetown, limit the number of possessions - grind out the game - stay in your offense - don't get into a running game with Syracuse - keep doing what you've been doing.
2.) For Syracuse, work that advantage you have in the post vs. Georgetown - the Hoyas don't have Greg Whittington - as he's out of the lineup due to academic issues. But if you have the chance to run on Georgetown - you get that done - because you can run the Hoyas into the ground.
For even better analysis of today's match up, check out @CasualHoya's conversation with @NunesMagician - and check out the return Q&A here.
The @HokieGuru expects a major defensive battle - it's not going to be a high scoring game - and we'll call it Syracuse 68 Georgetown 63 - with the Hoyas leading at half time.
It's too soon for this rivalry to go away - and these are the unfortunate consequences of conference realignment. Hopefully, the head honchos at ESPN have their acts together and have Georgetown and Syracuse meet in: 1.) The Battle of Atlantis, 2.) The Maui Invitational, or 3.) The Jimmy V Classic. These teams have to meet every year.
Have a great week!!
