Is the new Republican budget proposal a broken record? Cuts, Cuts, Cuts?

House GOP leaders are confident that Congressman Paul Ryan’s 2013 budget will pass the House.

The bill calls for an additional 2 percent cuts to the President’s budget proposal and would extended the federal pay freeze to 2015.

But, Politico begs the question, “Did no one learn anything from last summer? Did 2011 not happen?” They say “It can seem that way in Congress these days as Republicans bring their new budget resolution to the House floor next week, hoping to push the reset button on Medicare reform and score a trifecta by rewriting the debt deal struck with President Barack Obama last August.”

And NARFE isn’t too happy about the potential cuts to federal jobs and pay and benefits.

Jule Tagen is the Legislative Director at NARFE. She told Chris Dorobek this budget is just like deja vu for feds.

They know it will fail as written in the Senate so it’s politically a safe move. They can say to constituents “we are trying to cut costs but the democrats in the Senate will not let us!” I’m not choosing sides, the Senate does the same thing, but that’s just how it goes and that’s why it feels like very little gets done.

My entire thesis project for grad school is about breaking the whole “Do more with less” meme. At some point, cutting the budget means cutting services. To discuss budget cuts without admitting this is dishonest. (That goes more for state/local government than anything, but same rules apply)
