FedGeo Day is a new conference focusing on modern, open source geospatial tools being used in and around the federal government. In recent history the mapping space has been transformed, with open source applications powering rapid advancement in web mapping, cartography, and GIS. New tools now exist that are powerful, open, and allow you to do more than you ever could before, more easily.
FedGeo Day will present examples of some of the most innovative and effective uses of geo tools in both the government and private sector. Technology demos will walk through what specific geo applications can do and how to get started using them. The one day conference is for February 28th, 2013, immediately after Esri’s Federal User meeting, and will show tools that address the same shared needs and use cases in government, but that are open and in many cases more inline with new technology.
Alongside of the main track will be 15-minute technology talks focused on specific technologies like TileMill for cartography, OpenStreetMap, bridging Esri tools with newer options with Arc2Earth, through the web processing with WPS and the OpenGeo Suite and more. For those who work in the federal space FedGeo Day will be this years premiere opportunity to learn about new governmental technology policies, and how to get started using the latest and most powerful open geo technology.
The speaker list includes top geospatial officers from the FCC, Department of Interior, and State Department, technology folks from Code for America, MapBox, Stamen Design, OpenGeo, and many others using the latest tools to make great maps and other applications.
