Can You Rise Above A Scandal? We’ve got 5 ways

Right now the federal government is being pummeled by scandals. The IRS is facing the double whammy with its conference spending and its handling of Tea Party tax audits. Meanwhile the NSA is facing a scandal of their own in its secret phone tapping.

So how does government improve its reputation and get back in the public’s good graces? Tom Fox is the Vice President for Leadership and Innovation at the Partnership for Public Service.

He told Chris Dorobek on the DorobekINSIDER program that there is a real reason for disappointment with our government right now, which is unfortunate because it is at the hands of a few poor performing public servants.

“The negative outlook on government will only get worse if government leaders look to penalize the whole workforce for the mistakes of a few. There are a lot of good counter balances we can look at. Remember it was only a few months ago that we saw federal, state and local governments working together in response to the bombings in Boston,” said Fox.

How to Improve in 5 Steps

  • Find out how to maintain the resiliency of your people.
  • Find out what drives your people day in and day out and then capitalize on that culture.
  • Find concrete example of good work and share them.
  • Relate the work your employees are doing to the people they serve. Make the connection.
  • Create and authentic culture in your office.
