TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

Stocks were mixed last week with the Dow and S&P 500 (C-fund) posting minor weekly losses, while the small caps and the I-fund posted nice gains. Bonds (F-fund) were up slightly, but still beat the G-fund.

Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns through Friday, February 21…

The S&P 500 (SPY / C-fund) has spent the last 5-days flirting with the the prior highs, clearly running out of gas after the big 7 – 8 day rally. The question is whether this pause is going to be enough to rejuvenate the index for another push higher, or if it needs to pullback from its recent overbought readings?

The small caps (S-fund) had been lagging but they played some catch-up last week and are now closing in on the mid-January highs. In a way, the small caps have caught up to the S&P 500 because both these charts (above and below) are now near their late December highs.

Bonds are still in limbo as we see longer-term bonds (not shown) and the shorter-term bonds (below) hanging around the 200-day EMA. This is a nice consolidation, which could be a precursor to another move higher, but if that happens we’re likely to see stocks pull back.

But if that 200-day EMA on the bond charts does not hold, stocks would likely continue to rally. It’s never easy, is it?

Good luck, thanks for reading! We will be back here next week with another TSP Wrap Up. You can read our daily market commentary at http://www.tsptalk.com/comments.html. If you need some help figuring out what to do, perhaps one of our premium services can help.
