Can We Have a Results-Only Workforce in Government?

Yesterday I had an awesome coffee with Stacey Swanson from ROWE where we talked about the future of work in government. For those that don’t know, ROWE is a human resource management strategy wherein employees are paid for results (output) rather than the number of hours worked – it’s been already piloted at agencies like OPM and a number of state and county agencies.

Check out my interview with her below.

I like the short video clips! I think that ROWE is inevitable in government. GPRA (Government Performance and Results Act) I and II were the start of this journey. ROWE is the destination and will help to solve issue of how to root out low performers. It won’t be easy, but initiatives like telework, performance management, and performance-based budgeting are all contributing to the eventual transition to ROWE.
