6 AM Boot Camp Workouts: Mentally Stronger

For the past few months I have been taking a 6 AM boot camp class before work. I feel mentally stronger when I workout before work. I feel like I can accomplish anything after a 1.5 hour workout session. In the past, I use to workout after work, but I felt more tired and sluggish due to my work day. No matter what goes on at work or in my life after 7:30 AM, at least I can say I did get a good workout in. Work stress can add more pounds and it can make you feel really bad. When I workout in the morning, I feel like I have a clear mindset on the day ahead. I think developing physical strength and endurance does help you with developing inner and mental strength.

What types of workouts help you cope with daily stress or keep you healthy?

I prefer my mid-day fitness regimen of elliptical training, combined with some light weight lifting in our onsite fitness center. I also run in the morning, when the weather permits, but I like my lunchtime breaks. I get to catch up on the news via CNN on our personal screen, catch up on my business reading, and burn 300 calories in a 30-minute workout. It’s a stress reliever and I look forward to this daily break. I miss it when business interferes with my mid-day workouts.

I waken daily at 0500 for a brisk walk with my Siberian Husky Tater. (We “sleep in” until 0700 on weekend but go to the dog park for more exercise.) It’s the best part of the day unless I have to shovel a path through the snow.

I keep in shape by walking every where, picking up metal left by auto. Some days I pick up as much as 100 lbs and carry it back home.

Hey Clifford – out of curiosity, what do you do with the metal when you get home?

Finding time to workout is tough, I would love to be able to get my workout in before work, but I am an absolute night owl, so getting up early is always a struggle.
