Mil to Fed: Where’s Star? Not with Waldo!

On Wednesday January 18th the Department of Veterans Affairs will host an all-day outreach event at the Washington, DC Convention Center.

If you’re a Veteran living in Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware or West Virginia, I hope to see you at this informative FREE event. Please contact your local Department of Veterans Affairs for more information.

Representatives from several VA organizations such as the Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, and the National Cemetery Administration will be in attendance. These organizations will provide information, resources and assistance for veterans. Other federal agencies including the Office of Personnel Management, Department of Defense and Department of Labor are expected to participate as well.

Veterans will have an opportunity to learn how to create competitive resumes, sharpen their interview skills, and work with professional career coaches. VA hiring managers will be available to conduct on-site interviews for open positions within their respective organizations. Human resources specialists will extend tentative job offers to veterans eligible for non-competitive special hiring authorities.

Veterans will also be able to talk with representatives about their eligibility for VA benefits and learn more about VA’s homeless initiatives and programs.

Activities will include:

  • Presentations about benefits and services, such as the GI Bill, eBenefits, My Next Move, Gold Card, VetSuccess, Wounded Warriors, Yellow Ribbon Program
  • Demonstrations about VA programs
  • Health and wellness screenings
  • Meetings with representatives from veteran service organizations
  • Informational briefings from senior VA leadership on programs and services

Will I see you there? If you see me, let me know you’re a govie too! I’ll be at the Department of Treasury booth.
