USPS moving to Open Source

With all the government spending going on lately, it’s good to see a little sensible belt-tightening. This might be a good one to watch for a case study on cost savings (we assume) in switching to open source.

Maybe, it depends on who gets to choose what open source to use and how to implement it, manage it and operate it. I can see a financial outlay to train their people on how to use the new stuff.

The only thing that is confusing to me about this title (since I love to see open source), is that USPS says they are moving from Solaris (which is open source) to Linux (which is open source). So… they didn’t move to open source, there were already there… They moved from one version of Unix to another
