First off it seems like everyone is trying to avoid a shutdown these days and for some reason or another all those shutdowns are focused in on the hill. Obviously the government has their hands full with their own shutdown but now some people are looking for feds to get there hands into the NFL labor talks to avoid a shutdown on the gridiron.
Obama: I won’t intervene in NFL dispute
Luckily though President Obama seems to realize Washington is too tied down with it’s own problems to worry about the NFL.
President Obama on Thursday dismissed any suggestion he would get involved in the labor dispute between NFL owners and players, which could result in a lockout as soon as midnight Friday.
“You’ve got owners, most of whom are worth close to a billion dollars. You’ve got players who are making millions of dollars,” he said in response to a question at a press conference.
Even though the President has nixed his own involvement in the NFL labor talks it doesn’t mean that federal time isn’t being wasted on the issue. Currently federal judge Doty is heavily involved in the process as well as several federal mediators.
I’m just like every other person I want to see football in September but I don’t want to see it at the expense of government time and effort. I love to see the NFL talk their talks off the hill… Washington’s opinion of football is already bad enough with Dan Synder running the Redskins.

I always get confused about sports and congress…NFL Labor talks (Billionaires vs. Millionaires), MLB drug issue (illegal for baseball but not the country), voting for NCAA Collegiate champions (as if we need Congree to OK it, to tell us who won it?). I’m sure there are a million more instances and a million more questions as to why Congress gets involved in all this stuff? I’m sure somebody has a reason for it, but to me it is a waste of tax-paying time. All though this tax-payer loves watching tons of sports and I’m glad Congress is competent enough to not fight over NCAA National Champions as proved on the field/court or wherever else they play. 🙂
A D.C. NFL team…I wonder what their mascot would be? I’ll add my 2 cents and say I’m very glad Obama chose not to get involved the whole NFL thing. Just like when I breathed a huge sigh of relief when on the View or whatever it was, he admitted he didn’t really know who Snooki was. Phew! And that’s the way it should be! He, and Congress, have so many other important things on their plates to take care of than dabble in the messed up drama of pop culture and sports.
