Education.data.gov Launches for Education Data Community

I really like how data.gov is launching niche communities like health.data.gov. Generally I believe if we want interest in our government data it’s not going to be developing just broad “data” ecosystem. Instead, I think we need to build smaller ecosystems like transit data, health data, jobs data, education data, etc.

So I was excited to see education.data.gov launch this week for the education data community. Already there is a huge ecosystem of folks that use education data in academia for research reports. Additionally, sites like greatschools.org is bringing together school performance data for parents to make decisions. Can’t wait to see how this focus on education.data.gov helps expand the non-profits, academics, and entrepreneurs passionate about education data.

Check it out.
