I have a Nook and am very happy with it as an eReader; however, if you want to read PDFs, you'd better hope they are text only.
I bought my Nook with the intention being to load it up with PDFs and elimate printing out hard copies of my Coast Guard Auxiliary manuals and my HUD regs and manuals for use when I was out in the field for work. Sadly, unless you have the print on the very smallest font, you do not see any illustrations. At that point, the illustrations are too small to read.
I had hoped to cut the cord to my laptop so I could study my Auxiliary manuals on my commute but it wasn't meant to be. I've seen the manuals on an iPad and they work beautifully but it's too much money to buy a fancy eReader.
