The sooner we realize that centralized IT departments are a 1980s answer to a 1970s problem that were obsolete by the 1990s and a major drag on innovation by the 2000s; the sooner we will be able to free end users to take full advantage of 2010s technology.

Small and medium businesses within the private sector are already foregoing or eliminating centralized IT control. Big businesses are starting to look the possibilities and may soon follow their more nimble small business competition. Government should get a clue and start decentrailizing IT control to allow end users to leverage technology more quickly, less expensively and more effectively.
