He did ask if there was any actual networking going on on those sites. So my answer would be certainly there is. And I’d agree with you that there is probably more networking going on as a result of them, if only because now we know what many people who would otherwise have become long lost friends of ours are up to. If not for Facebook, I likely would not have reconnected with the former professor who ended up offering to pay me to help him with his research. Similarly, without Facebook I may not have known that Friend A was looking for a job in the D.C. area, though once I found out I quickly put him in contact with Friend B. That networking would happen even without these platforms is a given. But they facilitate it on the margins.
