The trick with Twitter is to filter, just like you do with any other medium. Follow only a list of people who provide work-related value, or follow hashtags for communities that cover your work area, your needs, or the knowledge you seek.

You don’t go to the coffee shop to listen to every conversation around you, so don’t do the same on Twitter. Focus on the streams that provide value, and try to provide value back when you can.
