SOPA is no different than game developers and their DRM. It hurts the consumers more than the people it was designed for. It reduces the quality of products, the ability for them to be shared, consumed, and used; all the while people who actually steal the content for financial gain are likely unphased by it as they find a new way around the efforts. I’m glad to see some conversation about SOPA on here, I know it is a touchy subject in the government space, but the fact remains that even GovLoop could be affected by such a measure.
Lastly – SOPA was clearly made to be a monster at the beginning, and then broken down to a more digestible bill later on and make it appear like a compromise. I would also suggest taking a peak at the industries/companies supporting the bill and the money going to the congressional backers.
