I think understanding the culture is paramount. What do other parts of the organization think/feel about your organization? Who are the go to people, inside and outside of your organization, who sincerely want to help you avoid any “land mines?” How does your supervisor prefer to interact with staff? Is there an open door policy, and if so, what does that actually mean? What are the organizational values…are there any? I could go on and on! Learning the new processes is a piece of cake compared to being a stranger in a strange land!
