The Angeles National Forest, Supervisor’s Office and Fox Field, is planning to advertise and fill a Supervisory Forestry Technician (Assistant Fire Management Officer) position and the work station is located at the Supervisor’s Office, Arcadia California or Fox Field, Lancaster California. DUTIES: This position is established on the Angeles National Forest to serve as the Assistant Fire Management Officer (AFMO). The primary responsibility is to assist the Fire Management Officer (FMO) in providing short and long-range fire management planning, program direction and coordination, and evaluation of the fire management program on the unit. Assists and provides knowledge in leadership, coordination, and direction for the administration of the fire suppression; detection and prevention programs; dispatching services; fuels/vegetation management; aviation management; and the integration of fire and aviation management plans and activities with other management. The incumbent receives general direction from the Forest FMO and is delegated full authority to manage the total fire management operation during the FMO’s absence.
This is a secondary firefighter position under the provision of 5 U.S.C 8336 © and 5 U.S.C 8412 (d) when it is filled by an incumbent who previously held a primary position and is transferred directly from a primary position or another secondary position, with no break in service or intervening service not as a firefighter, to this position. Prior wildland firefighting experience is a requirement of this position.
This position is being advertised with duty location to be either Arcadia or Lancaster.

FOREST: The Angeles National Forest resides among the Greater Los Angeles basin communities and has numerous activities and attractions. There are numerous world-class beaches and communities within one hour thirty minutes from the District Office such as the communities of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Camarillo, Moorpark, Simi Valley, Valencia, San Fernando, Thousand Oaks, and West Lake Village as well as many other desirable communities in the area.
Educational opportunities are also supported in the surrounding areas with access to all levels of public education. UCLA, Pepperdine University, as well as many other reputable community colleges reside within the effective commute areas of the basin.
Housing in the surrounding communities is a challenge while working on the Angeles National Forest. Costs can range from $275,000 dollars or greater in the surrounding communities and can escalate as high as the $800,000 in the communities adjacent to the forest.

This position will either be located at the Supervisor’s Office or at Fox Operations Coordination Center.
The Supervisor’s Office is located at 701 N. Santa Anita Avenue, Arcadia, CA. 91006 and serves as the main office for the Angeles National Forest. Arcadia resides in the San Gabriel Valley just north of the city Los Angeles.
Fox Operations Coordination Center is located at 4503 W. William Barnes Avenue, Lancaster, CA. 93536 and is our communication headquarters for the Angeles.
