Doesn’t have to be advice a boss gave you – can be anything you’ve seen out there.

    Here are my votes –

    * Best advice: “Stop fighting for a piece of the pie and work together. When you collaborate, the pie actually gets bigger.” (A chief of staff at an agency where I once worked)

    * Worst advice: “If you don’t think this is fun, you’re in the wrong line of work – period!” – supervisor to agents uncomfortable with “Fast & Furious,” (Washington Times 10/17/11)

When new to the job, my boss told me that they internally liked to promote having conversations in person rather than by email if possible. With our small organization (50 people), it helped me get to know people more quickly and helped to avoid misunderstandings. Plus it’s good for me to get out of my chair and walk around!
