Yes, it’s officially flu season. In fact, this week (Dec 5-11) is National Influenza Week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is kicking off the week with a social media campaign utilizing Twitter, Facebook, and even virtual worlds such as Whyville. The “Flu Ends With U” Campaign hopes to raise awareness about the flu as well as encourage the public to get out there and get vaccinated.

According to the CDC, flu was one of the first diseases that has employed social media outreach efforts. The CDC has been using social media for this kind of prevention campaign for four years now.
