Organization: Climate Corps Bay Area is a new collaborative effort among cities/counties and local community-based organizations that are
committed to boosting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
in Bay Area communities (http://climatecorps-bayarea.org).
As part of the AmeriCorps national service
program, 30 full-time AmeriCorps members will work directly with public and
nonprofit organizations to design and implement programs that save energy,
increase community awareness of climate change, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG)
Position Overview: Climate Corps
members will spend a majority of their time on program implementation,
including directly implementing GHG emissions reduction programs, building an
awareness of GHG emissions reduction programs through outreach and publicity
efforts, attending community events, and tracking outcomes to document
emissions reductions. They will also play a key role in volunteer coordination,
including supporting efforts to build volunteer engagement with emissions
reductions programs, assisting to provide hands-on training and support for
volunteers, and tracking the progress of volunteers.
Through this exciting program, members will engage with community leaders and learn outstanding practical, hands-on skills to help
reduce our impact on the planet. These skills are in high demand in the
workforce, as communities everywhere respond to our changing climate. Prior to
and during their service, Members will participate in training programs that
provide background for energy and climate change program implementation,
develop Members as a community leaders and professionals, and enhance skills in
building professional and community partnerships.
Desired Skills and Experience: BA
degree at least 1 year of experience in a professional workplace setting (or
equivalent). Strong organizational and leadership skills. Exposure to areas
such as environmental science and public policy, and strong interest in topics such
as energy, climate change, green building, alternative transportation, waste
reduction, and water conservation. Solid research and writing abilities and
math/science background. Communications skills such as community outreach,
education, graphic design, or marketing. Skills in standard office software for
word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Commitment to service.
Benefits: This is an 11-month full-time placement starting in late August. AmeriCorps Members receive a living allowance
of approximately $1,200 per month, health insurance, educational stipend or
student loan waiver of approximately $5,350 at the completion of service,
forbearance on existing student loans and payment of interest accrued during
service, and childcare assistance.
Location: Each member will be placed in a city, county, or non-profit located in the Bay Area. Details on opportunities
