The city of Ankeny, Iowa has been approached from a private communications company that owns digital billboards in the community. The company is offering the City free space for public service announcements like snow emergencies, traffic updates and community events.

Are there other cities doing this and if yes, have you encountered any legal or public perception issues with this practice? Any pros and cons you have experience with?

It is a communication company that owns and manages digital billboards throughout the Midwest. As part of an agreement with the City to transition from standard billboards to digital, they offered this service.
