    As the Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Education (OPACE), your duties would include:

    *Sharing responsibility with the Assistant Administrator for OPACE for the leadership and overall effectiveness of the Congressional and Public Affairs Office, the Food Safety Education Staff; and the Executive Correspondence and Issues Management Staff.

    *Providing leadership for the Congressional and Public Affairs Office for developing and conducting public information campaigns related to food safety and public health to inform and educate a variety of audiences, including Congress, the media, consumer and industry stakeholders, consumers, and employees. Provides advice to the Under Secretary for Food Safety, the Administrator, and other key officials on public communications strategies for disseminating information.

    *Providing guidance for conducting the Agency’s food safety education program, including operations of the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline, to develop and conduct a variety of targeted and general food safety campaigns intended to educate producers, distributors, food preparers, and consumers on prevention of foodborne illness.

    *Providing leadership for the Agency’s Executive Correspondence and Issues Management Staff which ensures appropriate, timely, and consistent action on executive level correspondence and public disclosure of information under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts.
